Dick Byrne to launch auto-biography in Kenny’s
By Kernan Andrews
Galway architect, playwright, journalist, and ‘man about town’ Dick Byrne will launch his autobiography - Tell ‘Em Who You Are! - in Kenny’s Bookshop, Liosbán, tomorrow at 6pm.
“Tell ‘em who you are!” ordered the last regimental sergeant of the 2nd Connacht Rangers to his grandson Dick Byrne. This remark is now the title of Dick’s autobiography in which he recounts his long association with An Taibhdhearc, working with Micheál MacLiammóir, and writing numerous pantomimes and plays.
In the book Dick also talks about his time playing jazz in a cellar in Paris, working in the ESB, his living as an architect, dabbling in film, and his time in the FCA.
Tell ‘Em Who You Are! - a life in the West of Ireland is published by Ballhay Books. It will appeal to those interested in the theatre in the west of Ireland, An Taibhdhearc, and the life and times of Galway city. All are welcome to the launch.
