Is turf cutting part of Ireland’s future?
By Kernan Andrews
Turf cutting is a way of life for many communities. It is a part of Ireland’s heritage, but is it part of Ireland’s future? This will be explored in a new documentary on TG4.
An Portach, from Hawkeye Films, directed and produced by Donal Haughey, will be screened on TG4 this Sunday at 9.30pm as part of the station’s Cogar series.
Legislation comes into effect next year banning turf cutting in some areas, and communities who have depended on turf for generations will find themselves on the wrong side of the law. What will happen?
In this documentary turf cutters of Co Galway will take viewers on a journey into the traditions and experiences of working on the bog, and passionately defend their right to continue this long cherished tradition.
