Druid takes Irish play on biggest world tour
Druid Theatre is currently undertaking the biggest tour of an Irish play in the history of modern theatre, as it is touring Enda Walsh’s The Walworth Farce across six countries and 16 cities.
The tour started in September in Galway and by the time it ends in Sydney next April it will have played Oxford, Manchester, Toronto, Columbus, Minneapolis, Chicago, Miami, LA, Berkeley, Perth, Adelaide, Wollongong, Wellington, Newcastle (New Zealand), and Canberra.
According to Druid artistic director Garry Hynes, the tour would not have been possible without the support of Culture Ireland and the Arts Council.
“At this time of talk of cuts,” said ‘Ms Hynes, “we at Druid think it is time for a celebration of what can be achieved by properly resourced, properly funded, and properly supported artists.”
