NUIG to mark anniversary of Berlin Wall
On November 9 1989 the Berlin Wall fell. It was a momentous event, not only for Germany, but for Europe as it marked the collapse of Communism.
To mark this event, NUI, Galway’s German Department will host a number of events. On Monday the department will hold a panel discussion in the Siobhan McKenna Theatre, Arts Millennium Building, at 6.30pm. Speakers will be the NUIG German Department’s Prof Hans Walter Schmidt Hannisa (originally from West Germany), Róisín Healy (Department of History), and Dr Henrike Rau (School of Political Science), who is originally from East Germany. The chair will be the German Department’s Rosaleen O’Neill.
The talk will be followed by a wine, cheese, and pretzels reception. Admission is free and all are welcome.
