Bus Éireann to run trial Carna to Galway service
By Kernan Andrews
Bus Éireann has agreed to run a Carna to Galway city commuter bus on a trial basis to service workers commuting to the city according to Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey.
The Government has made a commitment to explore the provision of a full-scale transport system in rural areas using the network expertise of Bus Éireann, the physical infrastructure, personal resources of the school transport system, and the financial resources currently being spent on transport by the HSE and the Department of Education.
Dep Fahey says the trial service is a “continuation and expansion” of the Rural Transport Programme which will be continued in the renewed Programme for Government.
According to Dep Fahey, the RTP provides a valuable service for people living in County Galway with access to a number of facilities and transport links for senior citizens and local secondary school children.
The trial service will run for one week. The bus will depart Carna at 7.15am to arrive in Galway city at 9am. Dep Fahey is encouraging people living in Connemara to support the service.
“Congestion is increasing all the time on the Moycullan and Barna roads,” he said. “An efficient and supported commuter service from Connemara would alleviate some of the pressure on the routes.”
