The tragic story of the rescue attempts for a Dutch flight which crashed into the sea, west of the Galway coast will be told in a TG4 documentary this weekend.
On Sunday TG4 will screen Tragóid KLM, which recounts the day in August 1958 when flight KLM 607 from Amsterdam to New York crashed into the sea 100 miles west of the Galway coast, killing all 99 people onboard.
At the time, it was one of the worst ever air crashes in Europe and left a pall of sadness, not just on the families of those who were lost, but on the scores of Irish men and women - from the Aran Island fishermen to the air-accident investigators - who took part in the search and rescue attempts.
