Mervue United return to National League action this weekend with a trip to Cockhill Celtic in their last Group 1 game.
Brendan O'Connor's team will be looking to put last Saturday's disappointment behind them. Leading 2-0 going into the 85th minute, Home Farm DCU completed a remarkable comeback with two late goals as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
That draw means Mervue go into second place ahead of Lucan United but remain three points behind Home Farm DCU. Lucan also have a game in-hand on the Galway side.
It means that Mervue's National League fate is out of their hands. However, fulfilling their end of the bargain by defeating Cockhill Celtic this Saturday means the pressure is on Lucan and Home Farm when they play each other in the last fixture on October 31. A favour from Bonagee United this weekend would do nicely too.
It's improbable but not impossible. All O'Connor's side can do is handle their own business and control what they can control.
Cockhill Celtic sit rock bottom of Group 1, with just one point to their name. That point came against Mervue on the opening weekend of the National League season.
While Mervue have progressed since that encounter, the Donegal side have regressed. They have lost their following five games, shipping 16 goals while only scoring four.
Kick-off is 2pm this Saturday in the Charlie O'Donnell Sports Ground.
