Founded by the Patrician Brothers in 1862 at the request of the Bishop of Galway, St Joseph’s Patrician College has continued to serve the people of Galway for 164 years.
Fondly known as The Bish, the school is now part of the Le Cheile Schools Trust whose pupil centred focus is clearly on display in the school motto of ‘Love God, work hard and take care of one another’.
With a population of over 795 students, The Bish offers a wide variety of subject choices at both Junior and Senior Cycle. There is a strong academic emphasis where students are encouraged to achieve the highest academic standards. This is evident with five of last year’s Leaving Cert students achieving over the magic 600 points and 33 per cent of students achieving over 500 points.
The personal development and growth of each student is also encouraged through the school's proud tradition of extracurricular opportunities across a wide variety of cultural and sporting activities.
The Bish operates as a community, working together to promote and develop a learning environment where students can reach their full potential by participating in a holistic and Christian education that will equip them to serve as good citizens.
The Bish look forward to welcoming the next generation of Galwegians through their gates in Nuns’ Island over the coming weeks.
