Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the expansion of Irish Citylink’s Ballina-Galway service with the addition of new stops at Breaffy and Straide in Co. Mayo.
The new Breaffy stop will come into operation from Monday, 7 September, while the Straide stop is due to commence from Monday, 7 December 2026, subject to the completion of road improvement works in the area.
The expanded service will provide passengers in both communities with direct connections to Ballina, Claremorris, Tuam and Galway City, as well as onward connections to other destinations.
Minister Canney said: “Improving public transport connectivity between our towns, villages and regional centres is hugely important, particularly for people travelling for work, education, healthcare and other essential journeys.
“The addition of Breaffy and Straide to the Ballina-Galway service will give people in these communities another public transport option and provide direct access to a number of key towns and Galway City.
“This is a very positive development for regional connectivity in the West and I want to acknowledge the work of Irish Citylink and the National Transport Authority in bringing these service improvements forward.”Irish Citylink has also announced changes to two later departures from Ballina to Galway following customer feedback. The current 5.30pm service will move to 6pm, while the 7.30pm departure will move to 8pm.
Students and other eligible passengers are being encouraged to avail of discounted fares through the Young Adult Card and to book ahead during busy travel periods.
