Repair Café Galway, where participants can learn how to mend clothing and household items, will return to the city on Saturday, August 22.
The repair café offers repairs, skill-sharing, and a welcoming space for neighbours to meet, chat, and learn practical ways to keep household items in use for longer.
Repair Cafe Galway is a free monthly event, run by a team of skilled volunteers who help mend textiles, small electrical items (by prior arrangement, and excluding heating appliances ), and everyday objects that might otherwise end up in landfill. Visitors can learn how to stitch and repair their own items or have a volunteer guide them through the process. A relaxed crafting table is available for anyone who simply wants to sit, make, and connect with others.
This month’s café includes a mini workshop/demo on the button hem hack — a simple way to adapt trouser hems so they work with both flats and heels. The workshop is free but must be booked in advance.
The café will take place on Saturday, August 22 in Áras na nGael, Dominick Street from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Walk-ins are welcome.
Repair Café Galway also curates a free community calendar highlighting no-cost events across Galway city, from Irish comhrá meetups to beach cleans, history walks, and social mornings — making it easier for people to find things to do locally, and for free.
