Galway's senior camogie team face a make-or-break clash with Tipperary at Kenny Park this Sunday in their quest to make it directly into the All-Ireland semi-final.

The Tribeswomen got back to winning ways against Waterford last time out and a victory over Tipperary, as well as a win for Cork over Na Deise would be enough to seal their place in the top two. Tipperary have yet to record a victory in this year's championship following back-to-back losses against both Waterford and Cork.

Cathal Murray's charges, who were without Niamh Mallon, prevailed 1-13 to 0-13 at Azurri Walsh Park a fortnight ago with Aoife Donohue's goal making the difference in a gritty, low-scoring battle. Getting off the mark for the summer was of crucial importance after the disappointing loss to the Rebels in their opening fixture.

Galway showed no signs of a hangover from that loss and Niamh McPeake stepped up in the absence of former All-Star Mallon to shoot 0-5 from play for her side. Waterford brought it to within one point with 10 minutes to play, but a rip-roaring Niamh Niland score after a 40-metre run and a free from the ever dependable Carrie Dolan wrapped up the spoils for the defending All-Ireland champions.

Needing a favour from your biggest rivals is less than ideal. But Galway must focus on their own task at hand and will feel they have enough to take care of business against Tipp. A direct route to the last four would be priceless.

Throw-in at Kenny Park is 3.30pm this Sunday.
