Galway’s senior camogie team travel to Azurri Walsh Park to take on Waterford in the second round of the All-Ireland championship group phase.

Cathal Murray will be looking for a response from his side as the Tribeswomen fell short against Cork at Kenny Park last weekend. A 0-18 to 1-08 defeat to the Rebels means the pressure is on if they are to finish in the top two and secure an automatic passage to the semi-finals.

Due to the change in format for this year’s championship, which sees the 2025 semi-finalists making up Group 1, Galway are grouped with Cork, Waterford, and Tipperary. They are guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, but the top two progress automatically to the final four.

Last Saturday’s loss would have bruised Galway. They were the form team going into the contest and Cork are in the process of blooding in new players. The Tribeswomen never laid a glove on their opponents.

But this weekend offers an opportunity to get off the mark. Waterford were impressive in the league but Galway’s league final victory over Na Deise will give them confidence they can get their All-Ireland campaign up and running. Waterford got their All-Ireland exploits off to a winning start with a 0-16 to 1-10 win at home to Tipperary.

Victory this weekend would be a real morale booster and would keep Galway in contention for that top two spot. Tipperary will be no pushovers in the last group game, but Galway should fancy themselves.

Throw-in at Azurri Walsh Park is 2pm this Sunday afternoon.
