Man arrested following death of woman in Clifden

An Garda Síochána has said it is investigating all the circumstances surrounding an incident which resulted in the death of a woman in Clifden earlier today (Thursday ).

The body of a woman in her thirties was found this morning close to an emergency residential premises near the Galway Road in the town.

Gardaí have indicated that the incident which resulted in her death did not occur inside the residential premises.

A man, also in his thirties, was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and is currently receiving medical treatment.

An Garda Síochána has said it is not looking for any other person in relation to this incident at this time and is following a definite line of enquiry.

The scene has been preserved for an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The Offices of the Coroner and the State Pathologist have been notified.

The body will be removed in due course, and a post mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardaí have said that the results of the post-mortem examination will assist in determining the course of the ongoing investigation.
