Galway Chamber on embassy trail

The Galway Chamber has been reaching out to international contacts ahead of the Ireland’s upcoming presidency of the EU in July.

The body, which represents hundreds of Galway-based companies, has undertaken a series of high-level engagements with foreign government officials. Its motivation is to expand its network for supporting regional economic growth.

The engagements included meetings with the ambassadors to Ireland from South Africa, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Belgium over the past 12 months.

Discussions with various US state and Chamber representatives have been completed, and representatives of the Welsh Government and delegations from Galway’s Sister City Lorient have visited.

The programme of meetings was aligned with Ireland’s forthcoming EU Presidency and the increasing importance of market diversification for indigenous businesses.

By deepening relationships across key international markets, Galway Chamber said it aims to enhance trade, investment, and collaboration opportunities for its members. This is particularly pertinent given Galway’s twinning with Estonia as part of the presidency.

“These strategic engagements are a clear demonstration of Galway Chamber’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships at a pivotal time for Ireland,” says Galway Chamber President, Cáit Noone.

“With the EU Presidency on the horizon, there is a significant opportunity to elevate Galway’s profile on the European stage while also supporting our members in diversifying into new and emerging markets. Building strong diplomatic and governmental relationships is essential to unlocking future trade, investment, and collaboration opportunities for the region.”

The meetings also provided an opportunity to showcase Galway’s strengths in innovation, enterprise, and talent, while exploring areas of mutual interest including business tourism, trade development, and sectoral collaboration, she said.
