Michael Tully, originally from Glenamaddy, has lived in the Ballybane/Merlin Park area for the past 16 years, working locally in Mervue. Over the past 16 years, he has been an active representative in the Galway City East Community working on numerous projects. Michael prides himself on his work as a link between his local community, Galway City Council (GCC ), local Gardaí and other local organisations to help solve problems and help individuals and groups to achieve their goals.

Michael has had a number of achievements in his 16 years of work. He represented Resident Groups and Committees to get improved signage and landscaping projects delivered through GCC. He has also supported residents to secure housing, secure upgrades to existing housing and address antisocial behaviour in the local community.

He takes great pride in his local community, he is the Founding Chairperson for both the Merlin Resident’s Association and the Merlin Allotments. Further showcasing his pride of place, he has been responsible for the creation of new paths in Merlin Woods to provide improved access and recreational opportunities for communities.

Mr Tully recognises the importance of sport in community, he is an active member of St. James LGFA club as a Club County Delegate and assists with the coaching of the underage girls teams. He acted as liaison officer for the Galway Skateboard Association achieving improved facilities in the Millennium Park.

In 2022, Michael researched, and set up a committee, to campaign for a calisthenics gym, which he felt would greatly enhance the facilities in the Ballybane area. Galway City Council has now approved the project with works due to start this year in Castlepark.

As well, he led the Delivery of Permanent Orienteering courses in Merlin Woods.

Michael Tully will be running in the upcoming local elections on the 7th of June 2024 and will be seeking your support. He looks forward to meeting you all on the run in to the election and would be honoured to represent the Galway City East community in the council chamber.
