Join the ‘challenge of all challenges’ for African AIDS victims

Galway Advertiser, June 25, 2009.

Climbing the highest peaks in Ireland in just 100 hours is the latest challenge launched by Irish charity Aids Partnership with Africa.

The 100 Hour Challenge, which takes place in July, is looking for participants who are prepared for the “challenge of all challenges”to raise funds for AIDS victims in Africa.

Participants will aim to climb the highest mountain peak in each of the 32 counties of Ireland. With six bordering neighbouring counties, such as the Galtees in Limerick which spill into Tipperary, there are only 26 peaks to be climbed.

According to APA director of events/fundraising, Kevin Clery, the charity is in constant need of support from Irish people willing to get involved for the cause.

“By signing up for the APA 100 Hour Challenge you are not only signing up for the challenge of a lifetime, you are signing up to change the lives of countless people affected by AIDS in Africa.

“This is the challenge of all challenges, it will test the limits of body, mind and soul. It really is the ultimate test of endurance and determination,” he says.

Clery says the event is equivalent to scaling Mt Everest and running four marathons back-to-back in less than 100 hours.

The APA 100 Hour Challenge is open to individuals who must raise €1,250 in sponsorship to help those affected by AIDS in Africa.

Some 28 million adults and 15 million children are currently affected by AIDS in the continent, and APA is working in partnership with the people of Africa in breaking down fear and stigma and in advocating reforms that will allow African nations to break the vicious cycle of infection.
