Sharon Shannon to play for dog shelter
By Richie Mccarthy
A concert to raise funds for a Connemara dog shelter will see the likes of Sharon Shannon, No Banjo, The Brennan Sisters, Seamus Begley, and Donagh Hennessy performing in the Roisin Dubh on Monday June 29.
Money raised will go toward MADRA (Mutts Anonymous Dog Rescue and Adoption). MADRA is a dog rescue charity based in Connemara and is run completely by volunteers. They believe that no dog should be put to sleep purely due to being a surplus number, and work hard to rescue dogs that would otherwise be put down in local authority pounds in Galway and Mayo.
There is a huge variety of unwanted dogs at the kennel with several pure breeds and puppies left homeless. Last year, of the 396 dogs MADRA rescued almost 50 per cent were pure breeds and several were small toy dogs.
Each new arrival costs MADRA almost €140, the organisation now urgently needs to raise funds to ensure volunteers continue their invaluable service.
