Connolly welcomes installation of electronic basketball scoreboards in local community centres

Cllr John Connolly has welcomed the installation of new electronic basketball scoreboards in three City Council Community Centres.

He said that the central feature of each of the council’s community centres is that each centre contains a multi-functional indoor sports hall with a full-size basketball court.

Many different basketball clubs use these centres for coaching teams and playing competitive games. The installation of the new scoreboards is a small measure but nonetheless a noteworthy one, particularly for the basketball clubs who use the community centres for competitive games.”

“Up to this point, the scoreboards used in games were temporary and mobile that had to be installed and removed as the games occurred. This often required the use of extension leads and wires that could have been deemed hazardous but were certainly unwieldy and inconvenient.

“The installation of the permanent scoreboards removes this difficulty and now means club officials and match officials have one less issue to concern themselves with in the preparation of teams and supervision of games.”

“The new scoreboards will be permanent fixtures and can be used for all adult and juvenile basketball games that occur within the centres. The scoreboards can also be used to record scores in other sports such as netball, badminton, volleyball or indoor soccer and the time function on the system can be used for any type of game.”

“The new scoreboards will also enhance the viewing experience for spectators attending games and add to the spectacle of the occasion that the game is. The scoreboard installed in Cappagh Community Centre is of sufficient standard for national league basketball games. Both Galway Titans and Maigh Cuilinn have forthcoming national league fixtures which will be played at the venue.”
