Nominations are now open for the 2023 Galway People of the Year awards. The awards were inaugurated way back in 1995 to give public recognition to individuals and groups who through their personal leadership, participation, courage, or achivements have made an outstanding contribution in their local communities at at home or abroad.

The awards are now recognised as the highest accolade a person can recieve in this country as every winner will be chosen by the people of Galway through a public nomination process and is finalised by an independant adjudication panel.

Over the years some of the winners were known the length and breath of the country, many more who were in the spotlight for the first time; but all had one thing in common — they were all ordinary people who have worked incredibly hard to enrich the lives of others and are role models for the next generation.

Organisers are now appealing to members of the public to submit nominations as there are many potential worthy nominees throughout the city and county and indeed, Galway people abroad, but only those put forward by members of the public will be considered.

If you know some individual or group who has done their community proud at home or abroad, people who being joy and light to the lives of others, someone who has shown true strength and courage in the face of adversity, or those who have supported others in their darkest hour, why not nominate them for a Galway People of the Year Award. As well as individuals, joint nominations or groups can also be nominated.

While there are no category awards guidelines for nominations include Community activity, Enterprise and Employment, Arts, Culture, Charity Work, Leadership, Sport, Research, Medical, Media, or Personal Achievement etc.

The nomination process is very simple, put forward the name of the individual or group you wish to nominate the reason for doing so and any supporting material.
