Miss Alice success puts Valerie in Wonderland

Radio presenter Valerie Hughes' homebred Bernese Mountain Dog Carraigbern Miss Alice became the only Bernese Mountain Dog in Ireland to currently hold the title of GB Champion when she won the Challenge Certificate and went Reserve Best in Show at the Northern Bernese Mountain Dog Championship Show in the UK recently.
. A very proud Valerie said this is a special achievement and is made twice as special by the fact that it was a breed specialist who awarded her the CC. Mrs Jude Simonds, the judge, is one of the longest established breeders in the UK and has written a book on the breed.
Valerie plans to give Alice a well deserved break from the show ring for a few months now and hopes to concentrate on her 10-month-old puppy Sophia.
Valerie is also the Secretary of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland and when she is not busy working in Galway Bay FM, divides her time between advising the public on the breed and looking after pets whilst their owners are on holidays.
'The dogs are my family and practically everything I do revolves around them',” she said.
