Roscommon Arts Centre unveils autumn events programme

The Humours of Bandon

The Humours of Bandon

While summer is still firmly on the minds of everyone, Roscommon Arts Centre has moved a step ahead to unveil its autumn programme.

The launch of the centre’s latest events brochure reveals a season jam-packed with theatre, music, school shows, visual art, creative workshops, comedy, the Lollipops Children’s Festival, and even a giant sing-along event for grown ups.

The season opens with a cracking theatre event in the shape of The Humours of Bandon on September 6, written and performed by Margaret McAuliffe and directed by Stefanie Preissner. It charts the journey of fiercely ambitious Irish dancer, Annie, who will stop at nothing to make it to the top of her game. This hilarious and heart-warming play was the winner of the Little Gem Award at the 2016 Dublin Fringe Festival and comes highly recommended.

Added to this, there will be performances by Conal Gallen, Mary Coughlan, Aonghus McAnally, Eimear Quinn, PJ Gallagher, and Alan Kelly. A number of high calibre theatre performances will also be on offer, including Blue Raincoat Theatre Company’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, Moonfish Theatre Company’s presentation of Star of the Sea, based on the best-selling novel by Joseph O’Connor, and Roscommon Drama Group will also return to the stage.

The latest musical endeavour at the arts centre is a monthly sing-along entitled ‘Vocal Social’. This fun event is all about bringing together people who love to sing for the sake of singing. Each month will have a different theme and the first session is free as it takes place on Culture Night, September 22. Lyrics will be provided and the bar will be open.
