Athlone Town host Cabinteely in the SSE Airtricity League First Division at Lissywollen on Friday evening.

The Midlanders were defeated by Shamrock Rovers in the second round of the EA Sports Cup on Tuesday at Tallaght Stadium.

Last Saturday's trip to St Colman's Park ended in disappointment too for Athlone, who led by two goals early in the second half.

Cobh summoned a brave late rally, scoring twice to ensure the spoils were shared and leaving Athlone still looking for a first league win of the campaign.

Goals from Val Feeney and Emeka Onwubiko guided Athlone to two ahead, but Shane O'Connor trimmed the deficit before Rob Lehane levelled with an 84th-minute penalty.

Friday's clash with Cabinteely is important as both clubs occupy the last two positions in the table so Athlone will be primed for a battle.
