Reigning Women’s FAI Cup holders, Athlone Town, will hope to retain their hold on the President’s Cup when the one-off fixture takes place in the Athlone Town Stadium on Saturday, March 2, at 5pm.

League champions, Peamount United, will provide the opposition, the contest being the ‘curtain raiser’ to the start of the 2024 Women’s Premier Division season.

The annual fixture, initiated by President Michael D Higgins, will offer manager Ciaran Kilduff an opportunity to see his charges in competitive action as they prepare for the season to come, the aspiration being a more positive league campaign.

Following their loss to Shelbourne in the 2022 FAI Cup final, Athlone hosted the inaugural President’s Cup fixture in Lissywollen prior to the start of the 2023 season.

A pulsating contest ensued culminating in a penalty shootout victory for the home team, similar celebratory scenes replicated in Tallaght Stadium when Athlone Town achieved FAI Cup final success.
