Enjoy a festive afternoon with the family at Athlone Castle

Athlone Arts & Tourism is delighted to announce that a Christmas Cracker event will take place at Athlone Castle on Saturday, December 19 starting at 12 noon.

A family treasure hunt will form part of the event and starts at the boardwalk below the Luan Gallery at 12 noon and finishes in Athlone Castle courtyard. Festive prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place and will be presented at Athlone Castle courtyard at 2pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The highlight of the day will be Santa’s arrival by fire engine at 1pm. He is making a special appearance at Athlone Castle keep to meet all the little boys and girls from Athlone until 3pm before he goes back to the North Pole to check that his elves are working hard. There is no admission charge to visit Santa. DJ Padraig Nally will entertain families waiting to see Santa with festive tunes and he will be encouraging the youngsters to dance whilst they are waiting for Santa's arrival.

Thanks also to Athlone Fire Brigade for bringing our special guest to Athlone Castle, to Padraig Nally for providing some festive entertainment and to Cllr Kevin 'Boxer' Moran for helping us arrange the event.”

Families are advised to wrap up well and to come early in the afternoon to participate in the treasure hunt and avail of the discount on admissions to Athlone Castle visitor centre from 1 – 4pm on the day. There will also be a great selection of Athlone Castle merchandise and gift vouchers available to purchase as Christmas gifts on the day. Don’t forget that Santa will need to leave at 3pm to go back to the North Pole.
