Menswear autumn/winter 2010 collection

Tommy Hilfiger announces its autumn/winter 2010 Menswear collection, inspired by the explorations that took place in America in the 1960s. The decade was a source for new visions, and was a time when people sought change and were ready to explore. It also marked a great milestone in history with the first man landing on the moon, paving the way for more scientific breakthroughs and explorations of the world and beyond.

The autumn/winter menswear collection presents two main fashion groups, which highlight five essential pieces. These include the houndstooth check for its two-tone character that gives the surfaces of the materials an interesting dimension. Next to this there is nylon, for a weathered look juxtaposed with the new, giving a modern and unexpected appeal to a trench coat or windbreaker. Chino continues this season as an integral brand focus as a fabric, colour and pant, as well as the denim shirt, which remains a staple of American fashion and plays a central role throughout this collection. Fleece is also naturally part of the brand’s heritage, and comes to the forefront in this collection as a basic and stylish essential item.

Fashion group one is inspired by The National Geographic Society, which represents some of the finest names and personalities of American history. Integrated into this fashion group is a contemporary capsule, which translates a collegiate feel into stylish and sophisticated offerings. Items in this segment include cable cardigans and fine gauge turtle necks, executed in luxurious fabrics such as wools, cashmeres and nylons, offering a relaxed feel and silhouette. The preppy feel is further explored in heritage and varsity, the main segment of this fashion group. Sweaters have unexpected inside linings, such as teddy fur or tartan flannels. Shirts are executed in plaids, checks, and tartans, while inside linings are made from nylon. Key items in this segment include, nylon puffer jackets and duffle coats, which are worn with jeans and corduroys. Fleece and sweatshirts form the very core of this fashion group, while layering and an eclectic mix of different fabrics and qualities, create a novelty and a refreshing twist to classic items.

Fashion group two is inspired by the uniforms of the Nevada desert young pilots; the real dare devils who risked their lives in order to test new planes and break new records by flying faster and higher. Their uniforms were a mix of civilian college sweats, pants and military functional items, modified to fit their purpose. The atmosphere was rebellious and positive, never refusing a challenge, where everything is possible. The contemporary capsule, as seen in the first fashion group, is also presented here. The casual sophistication is achieved in this capsule through simple clean lines with subtle functional details. Patterns such as houndstooth as well as denim shirts add to the relaxed and easy feel of the collection, while technical nylons and stylish airfield jackets with soft detachable linings give the garments a whole new dimension. The heritage and varsity segment of this fashion group offers bright nylon puffer jackets, as well as polar fleeces and technical bonded sweats, which show a high level of novelty and innovation.
