Cloonakilla National School sixth class pupil, Evan Mimnagh-Reilly savoured a ‘top of the class’ moment recently when he achieved success at the Roscommon County Spelling Bee competition in the Abbey Hotel.

With pupils from 14 national schools participating in the Spelling Bee competition, Evan, emerged victorious following the conclusion of numerous rounds, his dead heat success achieved upon his correct spelling of the word ‘mythology’.

Evan now advances to represent Roscommon in the Spelling Bee Connacht Final due to take place in May.

Evan is the son of proud parents, Fran and Sinead and has one sibling, Cerys.

Upon his return to Cloonakilla National School, Evan was afforded a deserved guard of honour to mark his success, the first occasion on which the Bealnamulla school has won the accolade, an extremely proud principal, Ms Mary O’Rourke, leading the plaudits.
