Enda Kenny's bid to be re-elected Taoiseach and lead the next Government will not be supported by the majority of Galway's nine TDs when the 32nd Dáil meets today. TDs are also divided on whether Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil will eventually form a coalition.

By the time the votes are all counted on Saturday and the people's verdict read out Mayo will be returning four deputies to the 32nd Dáil, one fewer than five years ago and two fewer than the county returned 24 years ago when the 27th Dáil was elected. From 1997 on Mayo was reduced to a single constituency as the old Mayo West and Mayo East constituencies were merged, and from 2016 on a large swathe of south Mayo has been subsumed into Galway West. With it in the region of 7,000 votes have gone south of the border and with them sitting Mayo TD John O'Mahony who is looking to take a seat in a battle royale that many observers expect to go on long into Sunday and maybe later before the final shake-out in that particular battle is decided.

A total of 92,315 people are eligible to go to the polls today in Mayo with 200 having already voted on the islands yesterday, where there were 121 eligible voters on Clare Island, 29 qualified voters on Inishbiggle and 50 registered voters on Inishturk. The 92,315 eligible voters in Mayo represents a drop of 8,645 from the 2011 General Election, with the majority of those votes in the south Mayo region now being cast in the Galway West - South Mayo constituency. The number of eligible voters does not include postal voters or special voters. The figures were released by returning officer Fintan Murphy on Wednesday afternoon, and he will be the man who will be running the show in the count centre in Castlebar on Saturday when the boxes are opened at 9am.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed €14,000 in funding for Castlebar Meals on Wheels which will allow it put a refrigerated vehicle on the road to provide meals to the elderly in Castlebar and the surrounding area.

There is no danger of Marian House closing and HIQA will work with the facility to extend deadlines until funding is secured for the facility. On Valentine's Day last year, the inaugural Saddle Up for Epilepsy cycle took place in Castlebar. Supporting Epilepsy Ireland, the event was a huge success attracting cyclists from all over Ireland who registered to participate in the first national cycle for Epilepsy Ireland. Feedback from participants was extremely encouraging and the organisers now plan to make Saddle up for Epilepsy 2016 even bigger. Its success was thanks to sponsorship, local fundraising, community volunteering, and the support of celebrities such as Joe Schmidt, Rick O’Shea, Sean Kelly and Taoiseach Enda Kenny who opened the event. The organisers are delighted that these patrons have renewed their support in 2016.
