Battle of the ‘Towns’ in Tuohy Cup final

It’s a battle of the Towns in Milebush Park on Sunday, when Newport Town face off against Ballyhaunis Town in the Tuohy Cup final at 3pm. The men from Ballyhaunis Town will go into the game as favourites, as they sit 14 points clear of Newport Town in the Welcome Inn Premier B table. Ballyhaunis Town are right in the title hunt only three points off first placed Kiltimagh/Knock United, and two points behind Glenhest Rovers in second place. Newport Town are currently sitting third from the bottom in the league table with only three wins from their 11 league games so far this season, but they are still six points clear of the relegation zone. When these sides met in the league a few weeks ago, Ballyhaunis Town ran out 5-2 winners in Ballyhaunis and also saw off Newport Town 1-0 in the second round of league games.

Coyle looks to stay the champion tonight

Tonight in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, Henry ‘The Western Warrior’ Coyle will put his World Boxing Foundation light middleweight title on the line for the first time. The Geesala native won the title last August with a technical knock out over Italian Elio Cotena in the same venue, and this evening he will be squaring up against 34-year-old Argentinean hit man Marcelo Alejandro Rodriguez with the title on the line.

Coyle returns to Castlebar to defend his world title

Henry ‘The Western Warrior’ Coyle this week announced his return to the ring in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, next month where he will defend his WBF Light Middleweight title against Marcelo Alejandro Rodriguez from Argentina. The details of Coyle’s first defence of the title he won in the same venue, when he stopped Italian Elio Cotena, were announced in a press conference in Elvery’s McHale Park, Castlebar, last Monday. Coyle had flown in from his training base in Chicago to announce the fight. Sitting at the top table he was flanked on either side by his father, Gerry Coyle, and his promoter, Brian Peters, who is once again bringing another night of top class professional boxing to Mayo. Peters even revealed in the conference that Coyle’s fight on August 17 would be the first professional card of boxing in Ireland this year.
