Every year Mayo County Council offers two special bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Each bursary covers all board and lodging expenses for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. There are a variety of work spaces including studios, a music room for composers and musicians, a multi-media room and a large rehearsal and performance space.
Double Vision is a show of work by past and present students of art and design at GMIT Castlebar. Bellacorick: Impressions of a Place is the title of a new exhibition of drawing, painting, and photography by Betty Gannon, Michael Gannon, and Ian Wieczorek, on show at Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, from Friday March 5 to Wednesday March 31. The exhibition is the result of authorised visits to the decommissioned power station during 2008 and 2009, and the three Mayo artists have created their own personal visual responses to the iconic building’s structure and former function.
