Mullingar men done for quarter tonne

Possible life sentences could be awaiting two Mullingar men after they admitted possession of over €600,000 worth of drugs at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday (Thursday ).

Kevin Bardon (21 ), of Greenview Terrace, Patrick Street, Mullingar, and Michael Skey (32 ), of Grange Crescent, Mullingar, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis resin for sale or supply at Nephin Road, Cabra on August 2, 2008.

The two men were caught with over 250 kilograms or a quarter tonne (the equivalent of 625lb ) of cannabis resin, thought to have an estimated street value of over €600,000.

The two men were remanded in custody by Judge Katherine Delahunt, with consent to bail until their sentence date in July. Facts will be heard in the case on this date.

The maximum prison sentence for anyone caught with over €13,000 worth of drugs is life.
