Delays expected as N4 works get under way

Motorists are being warned to expect some delays as works get under way on the N4 between Clongowney and McNeads Bridge as part of the N4 The Downs Grade Separation Scheme.

SIAC Construction Ltd, on behalf of Westmeath County Council, have commenced works on site. A traffic management plan is in place, and traffic on one section of the dual carriageway has been reduced to one lane in both directions.

Some median crossings have also been closed and diversions are in place via Junction 13, McNeads Bridge and Junction 15, Marlinstown. These works may result in delays at peak times.

The scheme comprises the construction of a new junction adjacent to Flynn Feeds, a new pedestrian bridge, and the closure of the existing median points. The council says the scheme will bring significant safety benefits due to the closure of the median crossing points and other junctions, while traffic using the N4 will benefit from improved efficiency.

The anticipated completion date for the works is December 2012. Westmeath County Council regrets any inconvenience caused during the course of these roadworks.
