Judge adjornes assault case

The case of two Mullingar men charged with assault causing harm has been adjourned to allow the judge consider whether the case should be heard in a higher court.

Inspector Kieran Keyes outlined the facts alleged in the case of Joe Dongohue of 29 Cathedral View and Colm Donoghue who lives at O’Connell Terrace in the town

He told the court that the victim had been walking through Penney’s car park when he was attacked by two people.

When he fell to the ground he was kicked and received head injuries which required hospital attention.

He was confused and disorientated after the assault which saw him receive cuts and bruises to his face and very bad swelling under his left eye.

Photos were presented to the court, but it was not clear whether the victim is still undergoing treatment.

The case was adjourned to May 20 for further information to be supplied.
