Man disqualified for being four times over the limit

Judge Neilan commented on an “extremely high reading” of alcohol as he disqualified a Mullingar man for three years for drink-driving.

Liam McCarthy of 88 Lynn Heights had 122mg alcohol/100ml breath when he was stopped by gardaí on the Ashe Road on February 21 this year. He was intercepted after being observed driving erratically, Inspector Jarlath Folan told the court.

Mr Louis Kiernan said his client, a married father of four had never been in trouble before and had no excuse for his behaviour.

The 42-year-old had made a stupid decision after his daughter’s 21st birthday party, he said and regretted the incident.

Judge Neilan noted the high reading as he imposed a fine of €800 and put the county council worker off the road for three years.
