Driving through stop sign leads to disqualification

A Mullingar man who drove through a stop sign and hit a timber fence while drunk has lost his driver’s licence for two years.

Vincent Duignan failed a roadside breath test after gardaí were called to the scene of the accident which occurred at Gaybrook at 4.30pm on May 9.

He later returned a reading of 62mg alcohol/100ml breath at Mullingar Garda Station.

Mr Louis Kiernan said his young client lives at home with his parents at Kilmaglish, Knockdrin and had paid for the fence to be repaired.

The judge expressed his concern for pedestrians who could have been walking in the area at the time and as he imposed a fine of €750 he said he had “no sympathy for people who lose their driver’s licence regarding this type of offence”.
