Camouflaged prototype of Volkswagen’s all-new ID. 5

At first I thought it was a Mayo bodyshop paying a great tribute to the recent heroics of the Mayo footballers!

However, on closer inspection, I realised it was a camouflaged near production prototype of Volkswagen’s ID. 5.

The German carmaker describes it as the first car to combine sporty, elegant coupé design with the qualities of their all-electric ID. family. It adds that it offers a completely new sense of space in a high-quality coupé design that clearly stands out from the appearance of conventional vehicles - and so is unique in its segment. It is due to go on sale here in the second half of next year.

Volkswagen boasts that when it comes to your demands, there is no need to compromise with the new ID.5. It says that it is as powerful as an SUV, as efficient as an ID. and accelerates like a sports car. The ID.5 has a low centre of gravity thanks to the high-voltage battery and promises a range of up to 540 km or up to 497 km on the ID.5 GTX 1. It says that these are predicted WLTP range figures for the ID.5 with 77 kWh net battery energy content and rear-wheel drive, or for the ID.5 GTX with 77 kWh net battery energy content with all-wheel drive. Of course WLTP guideline values for production vehicles may differ depending on equipment.

ID.5 GTX

Volkswagen boasts that the fully electric ID.5 GTX redefines the limits of electric mobility. Its sporty dual-motor all-wheel drive distributes the force of both electric motors to all four wheels, thus ensuring greater traction. It adds that because the GTX is designed not only for your daily routine – but for everyone who seeks more, a new dimension of sporty electric performance with plenty of space for convenience.
