Jazz festival to return in October

Festival 'determined to put on an unforgettable weekend'

THE GALWAY Jazz Festival, described by The Irish Times as “a boutique festival with a big heart and growing international credibility”, returns from October 7 to 9 with three full days of music spread across the city.

News last month that the festival had lost all funding from the Arts Council caused organisers to examine its viability. However the GJF's new artistic director Matthew Berrill said: “The festival has had its ups and downs over the years, and we’ve managed to keep it going. This is definitely a huge challenge, but there’s a great team working away already, and we’re determined to put on an unforgettable weekend."

GJF16 is running a fundit campaign with rewards that reflect the depth and breadth of support the festival has from the local community.

"This is the first time we’ve tried something like this, but we’ve been amazed by the support we’ve got from the city’s best restaurants, hotels, cafes and bars," says Matthew. "We’ve tried to make the rewards as attractive as possible, so now we’ll be hoping for the same sort of support from the festival-going public."
