Nora Barnacle’s Galway years

NORA BARNACLE, famous as the liberated woman who stole James Joyce’s heart and who stood by him during numerous controversies, is the subject of a new play.

Nora Barnacle - Signora Joyce, an exploration of Nora’s youth in Galway and her early years as partner and muse of James Joyce, comes to An Taibhdhearc, Middle Street, on Bloomsday, June 16 at 1pm and 6pm, and from June 17 to 21 at 1pm.

Written and performed by Galwegian Ann Marie Horan, the play is set in Galway Railway Station in the summer of 1912, during Nora’s return visit from Trieste, where she was living with Joyce and their two children, Lucia and Giorgio.
