St Nicholas’ Singers to perform Lux Aeterna

CHORAL MUSIC and poetry will join forces at a concert in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, this Sunday at 5pm.

The St Nicholas Singers will perform Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, interspersed with poetry from Kevin Higgins and Susan Millar DuMars.

Lux Aeterna lasts for 25 minutes and is in five movements. It’s lyrics are drawn from setting various Latin liturgical texts, including the Requiem Mass.

“I composed Lux Aeterna in response to my mother’s final illness,” said Lauridsen, “and found great personal comfort and solace in setting to music these timeless and wondrous words about light, a universal symbol of illumination at all levels - spiritual, artistic, and intellectual.”

St Nicholas Singers is an all-comers group of 40-60 voices which prepares its performances over two weekends of intensive rehearsals. The choir is conducted by Mark Duley and will be accompanied by organist Ronan De Burca.

Tickets are €10 and are available at the door. For more information email [email protected]
