Squarehead for Strange Brew

WHEN DUBLIN trio Squarehead released their debut album Yeah Nothing on Richter Collective last autumn, it was the announcement that something special had arrived.

The band - Roy Duffy (singer/guitarist ), Ian McFarlane (bass ), and Ruan Van Vliet (drums ) - had been building up a head of steam with their gigs and songs on Bandcamp, but it was the 11-track album confirmed the promise.

Their songs are brim full of the kind of vibes and vocals that scream surf rock, as on tracks like ‘Midnight Enchilada’, but that surf feel is offset by another side to Squarehead’s sound - a rough around the edges garage rock, which allows the guitars to growl but never compromises the catchy and upbeat melodies and choruses.

Squarehead play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday February 9 at 10pm. If you have not seen them already, check them out.

Admission is €5 and free to Róisín Dubh members.
