Fish - Marillion and solo eras show

IT IS a mark of the impact he had while with veteran British prog-rockers Marillion that you can get T-shirts bearing the legend ‘Fish, not a member of Marillion since 1989’.

It’s not surprising that most people associate the band with the Scottish singer. He was with them from 1981 to 1988 and sang on their best known song, the 1985 hit ‘Kayleigh’.

However there is more to both Marillion and Fish than just that period as the singer has enjoyed a long and critically acclaimed solo career.

Indeed Fish (aka Derek W Dick) has been marking 30 years in the business this year and as part of his current British and Irish FishHeads Acoustic Tour he plays the Róisín Dubh on Monday December 12 at 9pm.

Following taking time out to recover from an operation on his vocal chords in 2009, Fish has since been working on a new album, entitled A Feast of Consequences.

He returned to live performances last year with acoustic shows featuring his long term friends and musicians Frank Usher (guitar) and Foss Paterson (keyboards), both of whom were in John Martyn’s band.

Fish’s Róisín Dubh show will see the trio deconstruct songs from the Marillion era alongside the Scot’s solo work. Expect a strong turnout from ‘Fish Heads’ and ‘Marillion Freaks’.
