Galway Executive Skillnet (GES) has launched a unique programme of free and subsidised business training for 2010.The organisation is now in a position to offer free training places on a number of its training programmes to those signing on the live register.

This unique free offer affords those participants the opportunity to learn new skills from specialists and to network at workshops with people in the workforce.

All self-employed and organisational employees within companies of up to 250 employees can also benefit from the same high value training at 40 per cent discount rates, grant aided by The Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment.

A wide range of exciting new courses is lined up for 2010, including workshops on social networking, which cover Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and blogging. These half-day workshops, to be delivered by Anne Walsh of Tus Núa Coaching enable participants to learn new ways to promote their business on-line and link with a world-wide audience.

A workshop on telephone selling will be delivered by Orla Conneely of Salestrainer.ie, and will cover all aspects of the art of cold calling and winning appointments by phone.

Every businessperson is in sales, and Evelyn Cormican of Blueprint Coaching and Training will demonstrate in her one-day workshop how we can sky-rocket Sales and turn prospects into real customers by using winning techniques.

Workshops in iime management with Paul Stapleton, debt dollection by phone, manual handling for trainers, occupational first aid, and a range of computer courses such as in Excel Intermediate are also lined up for February and March.

Spring courses will include leadership, team building, supervisory management, event management, and ‘Train the Trainer’. Human Resource workshops will help participants ensure greater commitment and results from staff.

Sustainable Energy is a completely new course being rolled out that demonstrates how we can save money in an eco-friendly manner.

Also in the pipeline are workshops in the world-renowned Enneagram personality system, which teaches us to understand our own and others’ personalities and characteristics in a completely new way, thus giving us greater freedom of communication.

Galway Executive Skillnet is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd. It is funded from the National Training Fund through the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment.

Skillnets is an enterprise-led body that was set up in April 1999 to provide companies with new opportunities to develop relevant, effective answers to their training and development needs.

The Skillnets Board includes representatives of the employer bodies IBEC, Chambers of Commerce of Ireland, Construction Industry Federation, Small Firms Association as well as representatives of employee bodies through the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and also representatives of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

The Skillnets approach has stimulated a new leadership of enterprise training by key industry bodies, leading companies, trade unions and HR managers. Through their member networks, 32 industry federations, chambers of commerce and trade unions have promoted, championed, and led training awareness and activities. In each network champions of workplace training have joined steering groups and supported and encouraged other enterprises to participate in the process.

This leadership by industry has been one of the most important and effective key success factors of the Training Networks Programme and has been key to the uptake of training within some 43,000 companies. To date more than 200,000 employees have benefited from Skillnets training.
