When the blues comes to The Crane
By Kernan Andrews
“CHAZ DE Paolo is a fretburner with strong, undistorted Stratocaster tone, chops, and a grip on dramatic dynamics that brings a level of interest to his blues-rock compositions and covers.”
So said Tom Hyslop in Blues Revue about the New York singer, guitarist, and songwriter who will launch his new album Bluestopia in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Thursday October 29 at 9pm.
Bluestopia is Chaz’s fourth album and comes two years after Flirtin’ With The Blues which received high praise from critics, with Dave Scott in Blues Matters UK saying Chaz “can really develop into one of the most exciting talents in 21st century electric blues music”.
Chaz is no stranger to Galway has played here often during the early part of this decade and he supported Buddy Guy at the 2005 Galway Arts Festival. Since then he has toured with The Groundhogs as his backing band, and played with Buddy Miles, Jose Feliciano, Brian Downey, and Monster Mike Welch.
Wicked Instruments of Greenfield Park, Québec, Canada, has released the limited edition Chaz DePaolo signature model guitar. Chaz worked very closely with designer and owner Nicholas Dijkman to craft a beautiful hollow body cutaway with hand made Lollar P 90 pickups.
