The Government has created a €6 million fund for investment in the arts, and TD Seán Kyne is encouraging community and voluntary groups in Galway to make applications.
The Arts Capital Investment Fund was opened for submissions last week, with a deadline of December 18.
Under the pilot scheme, community and voluntary groups may be awarded funding of up to €15,000 for new equipment designed to support increased participation in the arts.
If an organsiation is planning to develop dedicated arts and culture facilities, it may apply for grants of up to €100,000, while a construction-related grant of up to €200,000 is on offer for building arts, cultural or multi-use facilities.
The scheme will be open for the next 10 weeks and applicants may apply for one of the above awards.
The aim of the pilot scheme is for organisations, including local authorities, to purchase equipment and undertake refurbishment works including climate action upgrades, health and safety upgrades and works to provide universal access.
“This is Fine Gael delivering for the arts in Galway. Minister Patrick O’Donovan set out his ambition for a dedicated arts scheme, securing the funding in Budget 2026 and is now delivering,” said Deputy Kyne.
Full details including eligibility criteria and how to apply are available on the Department of Culture, Communicatiosn and Sport’s website.
Speaking on the pilot scheme, Minister O’Donovan said its aim was to enhance local cultural facilities, improve access and increase participation in arts and culture across communities.
“This €6 million fund is about much more than buildings and equipment - it is about opening doors to creativity and opportunity in communities across Ireland,” he said.
“By investing in the places where culture happens, and in the community and voluntary groups that bring it to life, we are helping to ensure that arts can play an important part in people’s lives, regardless of where you live or your background.”
Kyne said he thanked the minister, urging “every arts centre and community group in Galway to apply.” https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/
