Have your caricature cartooned on Culture Night

The Galway Cartoon Festival is hosting a special cartoon and painting event at the Town Hall Theatre, for Culture Night, on Friday, September 18.

Jim Coogan, whose cartoons have entertained readers and satirised Irish society in the pages of the Irish Independent, and Sunday Independent and The Phoenix, is coming to Galway for a special Culture Night 2026 event.

Coogan will join Galway artist Margaret Nolan at the Town Hall Theatre for a day of portraits and caricatures on Friday September 18, from 4.30pm to 6pm, for Culture Night.

People attending this unique event can have their portrait drawn on glass by Margaret or have their likeness rendered in the characteristic and iconic Jim Coogan style. Taking place in the Town Hall Theatre foyer, this is a first-come, first-served, event and early arrival is strongly advised.

Budding cartoonists will also be enticed by a board with face shaped blanks where people can draw their own faces.

“I’m really looking forward to drawing as many of Galway’s faces as possible on Culture Night,” says Margaret Nolan. “I’m known for my commercial work on glass, this time it’s you, Galway, I’ll be painting!”

The event is presented for Culture Night by Galway Cartoon Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026, with this year’s Festival running from October 1 to October 6
