Glenamaddy Players have secured a place in the All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals, which will take place in Carrickmore, Co Tyrone, from April 9 to 17, with the awards ceremony scheduled for April 18.
The group will perform Chapatti by Christian O’Reilly on Thursday, April 16, following the official draw held on March 29. Reaching the All-Ireland stage is a significant achievement for any drama group, with competition becoming increasingly strong each year.
Throughout the festival circuit, the production has received recognition across multiple categories, with both awards and nominations for the director, cast and crew. The cast features Marie Coneran as Betty and Padraic Newman as Dan.
The play is directed by Coman Keaveny, supported by an experienced technical and backstage team who contribute to the overall quality of the production.
Set in Dublin, Chapatti tells the story of two lonely animal lovers whose lives unexpectedly intersect. Dan, accompanied by his dog Chapatti, meets Betty, who shares her home with nineteen cats. What follows is a gentle and moving exploration of companionship, as both characters begin to rediscover connection and human warmth.
The production has been praised for its writing and sensitive handling of its themes, making it a standout on the amateur drama circuit.
Ahead of the finals, audiences will have an opportunity to see the play locally at Glenamaddy Town Hall Theatre on Friday, April 10, and Monday, April 13, both at 8pm.
Supporters are encouraged to attend these performances, with tickets available online through the Glenamaddy Players’ Eventbrite page.
