The show runs in Kilcornan Hall on Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3, with doors at 7pm.
Set in 1920s Chicago, the musical follows Roxie Hart, who finds herself on death row after murdering her lover. There she meets fellow inmate Velma Kelly, and the pair compete for headlines, fame and freedom in a satirical tale of celebrity culture and the pursuit of the American Dream.
The teen edition of the Broadway hit retains the sharp humour and iconic musical numbers, including ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Cell Block Tango’, while being specially adapted for younger performers and audiences alike.
The production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
The cast features local performers aged between 12 and 18 who have been rehearsing weekly as part of AYMT’s musical theatre programme.
The group, founded in 2024, is a completely volunteer-led community initiative offering teenagers in Athenry and surrounding areas the opportunity to develop skills in singing, dancing and drama in a supportive and inclusive environment.
It was established to combine a love of musical theatre with a safe and encouraging space for young people to build confidence, learn new skills, and form friendships through performance.
