Slide - the future of Irish trad @ Campbell’s
By Kernan Andrews
TRAD BAND Slide -whose members have been in Dé Danann, Stocktons Wing, Danú, and Liam Clancy and Damien Dempsey’s bands, play Campbell’s Tavern, Cloughanover, Headford on Saturday.
Dónal Lunny has described them as “taking Irish music to a new place” while Folk Roots magazine said they “successfully merge youthful arrogance and swagger with traditional expertise”. The band won the 2001 IMM best newcomers award and the 2006 Music Network’s Young Musicwide award. The band will be recording their show in Campbell’s.
Other shows to watch out for at the venue include comedy from New Zealand born Galway resident Danny Dowling on Saturday June 27. A major name in Irish comedy will take to the stage on July 6 (so watch this space). Campbell’s will host two Galway Arts Festival gigs - Andy McKee on July 13 and Mary Gauthier on July 25.
