Dermot Neary has been appointed the new president of the Rotary Club of Athlone.

Dermot, who is the 28th president, received the chain of office from outgoing president Tom Keady at a fellowship gathering in the Wineport recently. Dermot is a Chartered Certified Accountant and the principal in Eaton Neary Accountancy Firm and well known in the businesses community of Athlone.

He has been involved in community and voluntary work for many years and believes that Rotary is now the right platform to encourage business and professional people to work together to improve the lives of others through the club’s numerous charity projects like the Tree of Remembrance and Bikes4Africa.

“I am honoured to accept the role of president of the Rotary Club of Athlone and will strive to enhance the impact of our club locally and expand our network,” said Dermot.

The Rotary Club of Athlone has had a very busy year in 2014 having expanded its membership, raised considerable funds for charity through a range of projects, including the annual Tree of Remembrance, expanded the Bikes4Africa project to other clubs throughout Ireland, ran the Youth Leadership competition, the Young Writer competition, and offered a number of youth exchanges and youth camps to the secondary schools in Athlone.

“All of these programmes offer a wonderful opportunity for young people in Athlone who will be the leaders of the future and we are very thankful to all the participants and all the schools who took part,” said Dermot.

Dermot hails from Elphin in County Roscommon and is a member of Rotary for the past four years. He lives in Monksfield Park with his wife Kelly Marie and their two-year-old daughter Eleanor.

Dermot thanked and congratulated Tom Keady on his presidency and all the achievements of the club in 2014. He said that Tom has been a wonderful ambassador for the club and for Athlone.
