Westmeath primary school indoor hurling resumes for 2010
Kilbeggan Primary School’s indoor hurling team which competed in last year’s competitions in AIT.
As a follow on from the county’s indoor hurling blitzes which have ran for the last number of years, the same type of activity is again being planned for this February by the Westmeath Coaching and Games Committee in conjunction with Cumann na mBunscol Iarmhí. The format will be similar to last year, with schools playing a series of games in a blitz with morning sessions running from 10am to 12pm and new schools involved playing in the afternoon session from 12.30pm – 2.30pm. Each school will play in one blitz with the option of a ‘Finals Day’ for each of the blitz winners. Hurling and camogie competitions will be run separately with Streete Community Hall and AIT again hosting the games.
The following rules/general guidelines will apply for each blitz:
Games eight-a-side and unlimited substitutions (panels of 12)
Schools to play in their school jerseys
Ground hurling at all times
No deliberate kicking of the ball
High ball at the referee’s discretion
Game length 12 minutes approx. (2 x 6min)
Helmets must be worn while playing
Any school wishing to become involved should complete the entry form as sent to all schools by Cumann na mBunscol secretary Oliver Keating with all entries to be in by this Friday January 22. If any school wants additional detail it can be got through games development manager Noel Delaney on (087) 2456147.
