“New York has the Statue of Liberty, Galway has Con Mór,” says Artistic Director of Macnas, Noeline Kavanagh.

Macnas is looking for young people aged between 14 and 19 to apply for its new performance and theatre programme, Macnas Spectacle Youth Theatre.

IT IS older than The Iliad and The Odyssey, and may have influenced both. It parallels stories in The Bible. It is the oldest surviving story in the world, and the world's oldest surviving piece of literature.

Macnas announce its most ambitious project to date – the world’s first ever hero’s journey – the legend of Gilgamesh. The epic will be staged as four individual events throughout the year, comissioned by Galway 2020 for the European Captial of Culture celebrations.

Macnas will be bringing their magic to the Galway St Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday 17th March. Macnas Artistic Director is delighted to showcase next generation Macnas. The Macnas drumming troupe aged 15 -19 which will be led, under the stewardship of Éimhín Cradock and Debbie Wright, will perform a celebration of the dance between shadow and light to the city streets. 

Out Of The Wild Sky, the 2018 Macnas parade, which promises to unleash "a world that is hypnotic and intoxicating, glittering, mysterious, and filled with shadow and nobility," upon Galway streets, takes place at the end of next month.
